Grounded in research
The technology behind Elop Insight draws on ultrasound physics, signal processing and sonar expertise developed in collaboration with the Arctic University of Norway. That's what gives the results their reliability.
We make scanning equipment and software that helps inspectors, engineers and asset managers understand what's happening inside concrete structures so they can make better decisions about maintenance, safety and longevity.
In 2013, we started looking at how concrete structures were being inspected. What we found was that the tools available hadn't changed much in decades. Inspectors were using stationary ultrasound scanners which were very time consuming to use. For a large bridge deck or parking structure, a thorough inspection could take weeks or months.
"Why isn't there a scanner you can just roll across the surface?"
It seemed like a straightforward question. The answer turned out to be complicated. Coupling ultrasound signals into concrete through a rolling system without gel, without water, without sacrificing signal quality was a problem nobody had solved. We spent years working on it.
We partnered with the Arctic University of Norway in Tromsø, drew on expertise from Norway's sonar and signal processing community, and worked closely with NDT inspectors in the field. The result was the world's first rolling, dry-coupled ultrasound scanner for concrete inspection.
It wasn't built to be impressive. It was built to be useful for the inspector pushing it across a bridge deck at 7am, and for the asset manager who needs to explain the condition of a structure to the owners.
Elop Insight has been developed together with NDT inspectors, consulting engineers and asset managers. That collaboration isn't a marketing point. It's just how the product has ended up being useful where it matters.

A scan that sits unprocessed on a hard drive helps nobody. We focus on making sure data moves quickly from scanner to screen processed, visualised and ready to act on.
Ultrasound has limits. We document them clearly, train users to understand them, and don't oversell what a scan can and can't tell you.
The best inspection outcomes come when the inspector, the asset owner and the software are all pulling in the same direction. We try to make that easy through the Portal, through training, and through being available when questions come up.
We're a Norwegian company, founded in Hamar — a town with a long industrial history and a practical approach to getting things done. Our clients work across the Nordics, Europe and internationally, on concrete assets and infrastructure that needs to keep working safely for decades to come.
The technology behind Elop Insight is developed in close collaboration with leading research institutions and practitioners in the field. That collaboration is ongoing and is helping us to improve all aspects of our technology.
Our AI research project IntellScan, funded by the Research Council of Norway, is the latest step. By applying machine learning to the interpretation of scanned data, we’ll further extend the core value of the Insight system — Efficiency.
We are happy to talk about the technology, the company, or how it might work for your situation.
